As a part of Evelyn Skye’s Skye Guard, I’m happy to be sharing with you today an exclusive first look at the cover for Skye’s 2019 YA Fantasy novel:

Circle Of Shadows

They are apprentice warriors of the Society of Taigas—marked by the gods to be trained in magic and the fighting arts to protect the kingdom of Kichona.

As their graduation approaches, Sora and Daemon look forward to proving themselves worthy of belonging to the elite group—but in a kingdom free of violence since the Blood Rift Rebellion many years ago, it’s been difficult to make their mark. So when Sora and Daemon encounter a strange camp of mysterious soldiers while on a standard scouting mission, they decide the only thing to do to help their kingdom is to infiltrate the group.Taking this risk will change Sora’s life forever—and lead her on a mission of deception that may fool everyone she’s ever loved.

Love, spies, and adventure abound as Sora and Daemon unravel a complex web of magic and secrets that might tear them—and the entire kingdom—apart.”

Now for the first look at the cover for Circle Of Shadows

Circle Of Shadows by Evelyn Skye

Circle Of Shadows is book 1 in a duology, which is set to be released January 22, 2019!

Similar to the covers for her Crown’s Game duology, I love the focus on the landscape!

I really love the contrast in colors from dark to light!

Its great how the design from the cover with its typography and the illustrations really take center stage on the cover!

Overall this is such a great cover! (´▽`ʃƪ)♥♥

Are you looking forward to reading Evelyn Skye’s Circle Of Shadows?? ✨🏰⚔

Overall Thoughts: This volume definitely focused more on the girl’s academics and relationships! While I did enjoy the more serious route, I still felt I needed to see more of the adventures these girls went on + the differing art-style 1/2 way through didn’t make this feel the same as Volume 1!

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

My Thoughts: Enchanting & Captivating!

With so much pre-release hype surrounding this book I was worried I would be disappointed!

I’m happy to say that from page one I was immersed into the rich and vivid Russian Fantasy world that Evelyn created!

The writing style goes hand in hand with this fantastical version of Imperial Russia!

As I got further into the story, I did not want this story to end & once I finished I wanted more! ❤ ❤

If fantasy isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry!

The Crown’s Game’s magic system is easy to follow and really builds on the world and characters!

If you’ve read Six Of Crows, you will love the character of Nikolai!

While reading he really reminded me of Kaz!

Out of all the characters, my favorites were definitely Nikolai & Pasha! As the story progresses you see just how much their friendship means to each other + how their friendship changes b/c of The Crown’s Game!

My only minor issues were with the POVs + a certain plot point! B/c its written in a 3rd person narrative it made it quite difficult to differentiate the multiple POV’s here and there, which in some points did slow the pacing!

+ Secrets are revealed as to who Nikolai’s family is, but with so much that was going on, it felt like a little too much for the already intricate plot, considering it gets revealed a lot  later in the story! But as the story progresses it does play an important part!

Overall this was an immersive and enchanting debut! Can’t wait for Book 2!

The ending will leave just enough for a satisfied conclusion, but also keep you guessing what will happen next!

Highly recommend this novel if you are a fan of Leigh Bardugo + Fantasy meets Historical Fiction!

Such a beautiful cover! ❤ & can’t wait for this book!

Here is the summary:

Sixteen-year-old Vika Andreyev can summon the snow and turn ash into gold. Eighteen-year-old Nikolai Karimov can see through walls and conjure bridges out of thin air. They are enchanters, and with the Ottoman Empire and other enemies threatening Russia, the Tsar wants an enchanter by his side.

Two enchanters in the same generation, however, are a rarity. And a problem. There is only so much magic in Russia, and it cannot be diluted. So the Crown’s Game was invented, a duel of magical skill. The victor becomes the Imperial Enchanter and the Tsar’s most respected advisor. The defeated is sentenced to death.

The Crown’s Game is not one to lose.

Of course, they both want to win. Until now, Vika’s magic has been confined to her tiny island home, and she’s eager to showcase her skill in the capital city of St. Petersburg. It also doesn’t hurt that the competition allows her to express her mischievous streak. Nikolai, on the other hand, is a study in seriousness. As an orphan with not a drop of noble blood in his veins, becoming the Imperial Enchanter is an opportunity he could, until now, only dream of. But when Vika and Nikolai begin to fall for each other, the stakes change.

And then, the stakes change again, as secrets from both their pasts threaten to upset the balance of the Tsar’s—and the Russian Empire’s—power.

The Game is so much more complicated than it looks.
