Empire Of Sand by Tasha Suri Optioned For TV! {Book Blog Discussion}

Empire Of Sand by Tasha SuriYes, you read that right! Empire Of Sand by Tasha Suri has been optioned for television! 🎉🎬

Hey, 24hr.YABookBlog here (~˘▾˘)~💞📚✨ So, when I heard this news I may have screamed and almost fallen off of my chair!

If your not entirely sure why I’m screaming about this, let me offer some background: I am a HUGE fan & avid supporter of Tasha Suri’s Empire Of Sand!

I’d first heard about Suri’s novel when it was announced as a book deal and was instantly captivated by the summary! So, from getting an ARC & absolutely adoring this book, to now eagerly awaiting EoS 2: Realm Of Ash (Out later this year✨📚), this is just so incredible & I’m so happy for Tasha and this amazing adaptation news!

Empire Of Sand is an epic fantasy novel set in the land of Ambha inspired by India’s Mughal Empire! We follow Mehr who is the daughter of a governor who has magic in her blood!

She is both Ambhan & Amrithi, who are nomads that not only have magic in their blood, but descended from desert spirits and are seen as outcasts!

When the lands mystics learn of her powers, Mehr learns she & her family are no longer safe! So, she makes the sacrifice to leave her home behind marry a fellow Amrithi Mystic and join these Mystics on their trek to see the Maha, the powerful religious leader of Ambha if it means her family will no longer be in danger!

There she meets Amun and not only learns more about her powers, but the Maha’s true intentions and the power within herself to fight back against the bonds that are keeping Mehr and Amun within his grasp!

So the news was announced January 17 through a Variety Exclusive!

Variety reported that Kronicle Media, Amyale and Rebel Maverick teamed up to develop Empire Of Sand for television!

Kronicle Media is a full-service production management company that “[creates] content for and about women from diverse perspectives…”

Additionally, Amyale and Rebel Maverick are also TV/Film production companies assigned to the project!

Variety also announced that author Sadia Ash, who also works in TV development is set to write Empire Of Sand‘s pilot.

This came as such a wonderful surprise because as I read Empire Of Sand, I continuously thought to myself how it would look adapted on screen!

Empire Of Sand is a story about choice and freedom, featuring an inspiring heroine among other powerful women! There’s a slow-burn romance, journeys across the desert, intrigue, adventure, magic, & so much more!

I’d say now is the perfect time to pick up this book if you haven’t already!

I don’t have any fancasts in mind, but the one thing I really want to see shine through in the adaptation is the bond between Mehr and Amun! Their relationship and how trust, and having faith in one another is such a important element to the story I can’t wait to see on screen!

Other elements that I’d also love to be portrayed on screen for the adaptation: the powerful sibling bond with Mehr & her little sister Arwa, Mehr’s connection with both her Amrithi & Ambhan heritage, & the importance of dancing, the Rites, and Sigils!

As more news and details are announced, you can be certain that I’ll be discussing it on the blog!

I’m delighted to see Suri’s phenomenal book have the opportunity to be adapted! From this deal things look to be pretty good, so I’m thrilled to see where this adaptation goes!

Have you read Empire Of Sand? ✨⚔

What are your thoughts on the TV option? 📺🎉📚🎬

Sacred Lies Mini-Series Review

Sacred Lies, which premiered through Facebook Watch as a mini-series as of July 27, is based on Stephanie Oakes debut novel from 2015, The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly!

I was unsure whether or not to do a series review (until after the show was over) or maybe do a review for every 2-3 episodes (considering this is a mini-series), but I felt making a general review would be best because I feel more people (especially those in the bookish community) should definitely watch this YA Adaptation!

78If you’ve never heard of The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly, here’s a quick summary:

Seventeen-year old Minnow Bly (now handless) was able to escape the Kevinian Cult. After having spent the last 12 years of her life there, she is now in a juvenile detention center, being the only left after the Prophet was murdered and the camp was set aflame.

Now as she struggles to adjust and un-learn what she’s been taught, an FBI detective/psychologist tries to unravel her story of what led to her escaping and offers her a deal. If Minnow is willing to reveal the secrets of the cult and tell her story, she can be set free!

While it has been years since I read Minnow Bly, I did skim through some chapters as I started watching the show and really loved how true it stayed to the book! It still kept so much of the main plot points, themes, and elements of the book + overall the spirit of the it too, which was definitely there with each episode.

I’d even noticed some character descriptions were spot-on to Minnow Bly!

Sacred Lies Facebook Watch TV SeriesWhat makes a mini-series format work so well for Sacred Lies, is seen through its pacing and development.

For instance, when the first 3 episodes aired on the 27, I marathoned them and was so happy both as a fan of the book and show in general, because the show allowed for more time with the characters (mainly the side characters), even more than in the book from what I remember!

You get even more emotional depth to characters and the story because your seeing it not just from Minnow’s perspective (like in the book), but also from other characters like the psychologist, Doctor Wilson, too!

Each actor and actress delivers so much to their role and was so happy with how much they brought the character to life!

Elena Kampouris portrayed Minnow incredibly! Because this novel centers around Minnow who grew up in a cult, her acting brings just–so much to Minnow as a character and the show itself! Especially when seeing her life during the cult (with her family) and after, now that she’s the only one left and learning the truth behind what she was taught for years!

In terms of characters, one of my favorite parts was seeing Minnow’s growth as a character whether its trusting people and trying to make friends (like her roommate Angel), or learning to read, we see her strength with each moment!

Additionally, because the story is told through Minnow’s past at the cult and the present, it delivers the mystery surrounding the Kevinian Cult, Kevin himself, and what led to Minnow escaping, in a way where the pieces are delivered little by little, but in a brilliant way!

Having read the book, it was amazing getting to see these characters I loved, like Minnow come to life. Also, through the episodic + multiple perspective/timeline format, you really get to the root of each character and understand them no matter how little screen time they have.

It also has somewhat of a psychological aspect to it, where you feel you get into the characters heads a bit and understand them in a different way.

Each character in the show adds so much to their respective scene. Every scene matters and you get more not only from the characters, but from the story and it all ties together in a brilliant way!

If you haven’t read The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly or watched Sacred Lies, please do! I haven’t heard many people (especially in the book community) talk about it, which makes me so sad! This is an incredible & really spot-on adaptation which further explores the novel through the depths of its characters on the show!

To celebrate the release of Sacred Lies, I’m also having a giveaway on my twitter (which is INTL) for a copy of The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly!

Overall its an all-around great show to watch! There’s mystery, suspense, an amazing cast of characters, and a perfectly executed story that has you on the edge of your seat after each episode!

If your looking for another YA book adaptation, please check out Sacred Lies! You won’t be disappointed!

As of today, August 10, there are 4 episodes currently out with new ones each Friday available to see by logging into Facebook and seeing it through Facebook Watch @ 6pm Est & Pst!

Have you watched Sacred Lies? OR Have you read The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly and started watching the adaptation too?

Sacred Lies Mini-Series Trailer Review

78As of yesterday, July 16, Penguin Teen released the first trailer for Sacred Lies, so today I’ll be sharing with you my thoughts on it!

Sacred Lies is an upcoming mini-series based on Stephanie Oakes 2015 debut novel (from Dial Books), The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly!

Summary: The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly is a dark, character-driven story that follows 17-year old Minnow Bly who is now juvenile detention. She spent the last 12 years of her life in the Kevinian Cult and as she recounts her story to an FBI officer who can offer her a chance at freedom, she has to face the difficult truths of her past.

Stephanie Oakes’s novel is what got me back into YA Mystery + introduced me to YA Thrillers and is easily one of my favorite YA thriller/mystery standalone books of all time!

The way she crafted mystery, suspense, and her characters always had me picturing The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly perfect to adapt as some sort of TV show or mini-series!

I’d seen news about her novel being picked up as a mini series with Facebook Watch & a few cast announcements, but now actually seeing the full trailer release, I am so excited to check out the adaptation & as fan of the book, can’t believe the story is actually coming to life on the small screen!

Sacred Lies will be streamed through Facebook Watch as a 10-episode Mini-Series!

Here’s the trailer for Sacred Lies:

My Thoughts: This is a fantastic trailer! I really loved it!

From the trailer, having read the book, I found it delivered the plot in such a great way! You also get the dark, eerie mystery through the cinematography, which looks incredible!

With the dual sides to Minnow Bly’s story, the trailer delivers a perfect balance of both her life presently and before, while also not giving too much away!

I found the trailer really got the soul of the story through and has me really eager to check out the show!

Sacred Lies will premiere on Facebook Watch July 27!

Are you a fan of Sacred Lies and looking forward to the adaptation??

+ Has the trailer sparked your interest to read the book or watch the show?

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle Review

But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie’s famous love triangle, Paige’s crazy new life begins to resemble her character’s.

My Rating:Full StarFull StarFull StarFull Starhalf star--Book Blog

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

My Thoughts: Not only is the cover beautiful, but the summary itself sounded interesting to me and seemed like something I would really enjoy reading and I was right! This book transports you to the complex world of Hollywood and the life for young actors/actresses trying to make it big! Paige Townsen dreams of becoming an actress and is convinced by her best friend Cassandra, to audition for a Book-To-Film adaptation of Locked, this world’s bestselling YA novel. I was happy when Paige took the chance to audition and got the role. After a few months she is adjusting to Hollywood life and becomes friends with her costar Rainer Devon. And a romance develops between the two! I really enjoyed their dynamic and how their relationship develops. Then Jordan Wilder joins the cast and that’s where the plot starts to get even more interesting.

In the beginning we are led to believe Jordan is a bad guy, but as the plot continues we come to learn Jordan and Rainer’s animosity has just become a big misunderstanding! It was great that the two were able to settle their differences. I was happy that Cassandra and Paige were able to forgive each other by the end and settle their issues as well.

The only reason I took away 1/2 a star was at times the plot felt a little slow and I wish I got a little more of Rainer and Jordan’s characters away from all the Hollywood drama. But other than that, I really loved this book!

The ending has me excited for the sequel and how Paige will adjust to life in Hollywood!

*I am also excited to watch the ABC Family adaptation of this book starring Bella Thorne as Paige 🙂 **

Read the full article discussing the adaptation here.

From what I read online, I’m pretty sure it is still in development! But when more info is released I will definitely make a blog post about it 🙂
