The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen Cover Reveal + Thoughts {The Bright Sessions}

Hey, 24hr.YABookBlog here (~˘▾˘)~ 💞✨📚 I’m back on the blog today to discuss a cover reveal I’ve been highly anticipating!

The Bright SessionsBased on The Bright Sessions science-fiction audio drama podcast, it was announced early last year that the creator Lauren Shippen would be adapting it into a YA trilogy!

The podcast, told through therapy sessions, among various audio recordings, focuses on therapist Dr. Bright who provides therapy for the “strange and unusual” or those with supernatural abilities. The show delves deeper into Dr.Bright’s past and more about her patients!

The podcast explores and discusses mental health in such an in-depth way and presents a brilliant and incredibly developed cast of characters–So, I HIGHLY recommend checking out this podcast if you haven’t already!

The first Bright Sessions novel, titled The Infinite Noise had its official cover reveal today via Lauren Shippen’s Twitter and today I’ll be sharing my thoughts on this cover & a little bit more on why I’m really looking forward to this book!

Here is the cover
Cover Artist: Victo Ngai

Here’s a full summary of The Infinite Noise:

Caleb Michaels is your average sixteen-year-old. He goes to school, plays football, teases his little sister. But when Caleb starts experiencing mood swings that are out of the ordinary for even a teenager, his life moves beyond “typical.”

Caleb is an Atypical, an individual with enhanced abilities. Which sounds pretty cool except Caleb’s ability is extreme empathy—he feels the emotions of everyone around him. Being an empath in high school would be hard enough, but Caleb’s life becomes even more complicated when he keeps getting pulled into the emotional orbit of one of his classmates, Adam. Adam’s feelings are big and all-consuming, but they fit together with Caleb’s feelings in a way that he can’t quite understand.

Caleb’s therapist, Dr. Bright, encourages Caleb to explore this connection by befriending Adam. As he and Adam grow closer, Caleb learns more about his ability, himself, his therapist—who seems to know a lot more than she lets on—and just how dangerous being an Atypical can be.

This is a fantastic cover & I can’t believe this book will actually be releasing this year!! The colors, the art-style, it captures and really illustrates Caleb’s ability (as an empath) and with that, Caleb as a character!

I’m beyond excited to read this book, not only as a big fan of the podcast looking to get more background into some of my favorite characters from the show, but also seeing how many more people will discover this amazing podcast through Shippen’s novel!

I’ve been a fan of this podcast for years and its amazing to see Shippen expand on the wonderful characters she’s created with this upcoming trilogy!

If you haven’t yet listened to The Bright Sessions, what are you waiting for? Go listen to it if you love stories with a complex plot & characters, superpowers, thorough exploration of mental health, and ever-present themes of friendship + family! 💡🎙✨

The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen is set to be released September 24, 2019!

What are your thoughts on The Infinite Noise cover?

Have you listened to The Bright Sessions podcast? & If you have, are you looking forward to this book?

Empire Of Sand by Tasha Suri Optioned For TV! {Book Blog Discussion}

Empire Of Sand by Tasha SuriYes, you read that right! Empire Of Sand by Tasha Suri has been optioned for television! 🎉🎬

Hey, 24hr.YABookBlog here (~˘▾˘)~💞📚✨ So, when I heard this news I may have screamed and almost fallen off of my chair!

If your not entirely sure why I’m screaming about this, let me offer some background: I am a HUGE fan & avid supporter of Tasha Suri’s Empire Of Sand!

I’d first heard about Suri’s novel when it was announced as a book deal and was instantly captivated by the summary! So, from getting an ARC & absolutely adoring this book, to now eagerly awaiting EoS 2: Realm Of Ash (Out later this year✨📚), this is just so incredible & I’m so happy for Tasha and this amazing adaptation news!

Empire Of Sand is an epic fantasy novel set in the land of Ambha inspired by India’s Mughal Empire! We follow Mehr who is the daughter of a governor who has magic in her blood!

She is both Ambhan & Amrithi, who are nomads that not only have magic in their blood, but descended from desert spirits and are seen as outcasts!

When the lands mystics learn of her powers, Mehr learns she & her family are no longer safe! So, she makes the sacrifice to leave her home behind marry a fellow Amrithi Mystic and join these Mystics on their trek to see the Maha, the powerful religious leader of Ambha if it means her family will no longer be in danger!

There she meets Amun and not only learns more about her powers, but the Maha’s true intentions and the power within herself to fight back against the bonds that are keeping Mehr and Amun within his grasp!

So the news was announced January 17 through a Variety Exclusive!

Variety reported that Kronicle Media, Amyale and Rebel Maverick teamed up to develop Empire Of Sand for television!

Kronicle Media is a full-service production management company that “[creates] content for and about women from diverse perspectives…”

Additionally, Amyale and Rebel Maverick are also TV/Film production companies assigned to the project!

Variety also announced that author Sadia Ash, who also works in TV development is set to write Empire Of Sand‘s pilot.

This came as such a wonderful surprise because as I read Empire Of Sand, I continuously thought to myself how it would look adapted on screen!

Empire Of Sand is a story about choice and freedom, featuring an inspiring heroine among other powerful women! There’s a slow-burn romance, journeys across the desert, intrigue, adventure, magic, & so much more!

I’d say now is the perfect time to pick up this book if you haven’t already!

I don’t have any fancasts in mind, but the one thing I really want to see shine through in the adaptation is the bond between Mehr and Amun! Their relationship and how trust, and having faith in one another is such a important element to the story I can’t wait to see on screen!

Other elements that I’d also love to be portrayed on screen for the adaptation: the powerful sibling bond with Mehr & her little sister Arwa, Mehr’s connection with both her Amrithi & Ambhan heritage, & the importance of dancing, the Rites, and Sigils!

As more news and details are announced, you can be certain that I’ll be discussing it on the blog!

I’m delighted to see Suri’s phenomenal book have the opportunity to be adapted! From this deal things look to be pretty good, so I’m thrilled to see where this adaptation goes!

Have you read Empire Of Sand? ✨⚔

What are your thoughts on the TV option? 📺🎉📚🎬

Stella Grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. At this point, what Stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. Six feet apart. No exceptions.

The only thing Will Newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. He couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. Soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.

Will’s exactly what Stella needs to stay away from. If he so much as breathes on Stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. Either one of them could die. The only way to stay alive is to stay apart. But suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. It feels like punishment.

What if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? Would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?

Podcasts In Publishing feat. Sadie by Courtney Summers {Literary Listens}

literary-listens-24hryabookblog-feature-bannerIf you’re new to my blog, Literary Listens is a feature I created to share my love of podcasts while also incorporating my love for books! When I’m not reading, I also love listening to podcasts, especially audio dramas!

Today’s post is somewhat of a continuation of my Publishers & Podcasts post from May of last year, where I discussed the potential future of podcasts in publishing and YA!

The Girls PodcastWith the recent release of The Girls, a limited series audio drama, based on the podcast within Courtney Summers upcoming YA Mystery-Contemporary, Sadie, I thought I’d expand more on this link between podcasts and books!

+ According to Paste Magazine, which shared an exclusive first look at episode 1 of The Girls, it’ll be releasing a new episode every Wednesday (with 6 total) leading up to the release of Sadie (September 4)! + The podcast released its 1st episode as of August 1!

While I haven’t yet read my ARC of Sadie, from what I know about the book, I think its amazing that the publisher is bringing the podcast within the story to life!

Now I’d like to share some additional ideas and speculate how podcasts can merge with publishing & books, and how The Girls is a groundbreaking first step, especially for Young Adult!

Storytelling

Podcasts are such an incredible and unique medium to explore stories! Through the use of audio, it allows for the listener to take in + imagine a story in their own way!

This creative outlet for storytelling, especially through already/upcoming published fiction offers a different view of the story, for example through voice acting, music, SFX, narration, etc.

Depending on the style of narration and the subject of the story, listeners are able to bring the story to life in their mind and create a picture of it in their own way, which you can’t really get with another medium.

And especially for us avid readers, getting a glimpse of a book in a new way, just adds a lot more to the reading experience!

Accessibility

This is something I actually hadn’t thought too much about until I compared it to fiction! Let’s be honest, books (especially new releases) can be expensive!

Through the use of a podcasts (which are free & available for streaming through iTunes Podcasts mainly, or other audio sites depending on whether they get posted there: like Sound Cloud or Stitcher to name a couple), its an incredible opportunity for readers (especially international) to have the opportunity to explore an upcoming/anticipated book at no cost!

Adaptation

Through the adaptation of a book (or in the case of Sadie, a podcast within the book), its an overall unique way of either expanding, even just adapting canon story lines or content from an already existing book!

With the accessibility and rise in podcasts, I do hope to see authors & publishers (especially in YA) experiment with it more in the books they publish, because its a medium well worth exploring!

From author interviews (maybe even author interviews w/ a voice actor bringing a character to life), adapted story material, original soundtracks, bonus content through an audio format like audio diaries, recordings, or serialized fiction podcasts of certain characters, etc. There are a countless number of ways this can be used to expand on the material in a published novel!

Book Spotlight

Through the use of audio, a creative idea could be for publishers to feature a specific book soon after release! This could allow for an author’s book to be given a spotlight on how it came to be!

This type of podcast could include exclusive interviews with the team behind the book, from editors, the literary agent, marketing team, cover designers, and even an exclusive interview with the author!

This can allow for readers who loved the book or even those who can’t meet the author in person, have a chance to get an exclusive look at a favorite book, from different angles!

As someone looking to get into the publishing industry, this could even offer more insight into the process of getting an up-and-coming + anticipated release out on shelves!

Sadie by Courtney SummersAnd those are some speculative thoughts on the future of publishing and books through podcasts! 🎙✨📚

Are you looking forward to listening to The Girls podcast alongside OR after reading Sadie?

Where do you see podcasts within the sphere of publishing & books?

*I’m planning to read Sadie (this month) alongside listening to the podcast too! So keep an eye out on the blog for a podcast review!

+ If you’d be interested in more posts discussing the future of publishing, I’d love to create more! So, definitely leave a comment letting me know! (I’m in the early stages of drafting a post about what I see specific publishers doing w/ podcasts in the future!)

Sacred Lies Mini-Series Trailer Review

78As of yesterday, July 16, Penguin Teen released the first trailer for Sacred Lies, so today I’ll be sharing with you my thoughts on it!

Sacred Lies is an upcoming mini-series based on Stephanie Oakes 2015 debut novel (from Dial Books), The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly!

Summary: The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly is a dark, character-driven story that follows 17-year old Minnow Bly who is now juvenile detention. She spent the last 12 years of her life in the Kevinian Cult and as she recounts her story to an FBI officer who can offer her a chance at freedom, she has to face the difficult truths of her past.

Stephanie Oakes’s novel is what got me back into YA Mystery + introduced me to YA Thrillers and is easily one of my favorite YA thriller/mystery standalone books of all time!

The way she crafted mystery, suspense, and her characters always had me picturing The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly perfect to adapt as some sort of TV show or mini-series!

I’d seen news about her novel being picked up as a mini series with Facebook Watch & a few cast announcements, but now actually seeing the full trailer release, I am so excited to check out the adaptation & as fan of the book, can’t believe the story is actually coming to life on the small screen!

Sacred Lies will be streamed through Facebook Watch as a 10-episode Mini-Series!

Here’s the trailer for Sacred Lies:

My Thoughts: This is a fantastic trailer! I really loved it!

From the trailer, having read the book, I found it delivered the plot in such a great way! You also get the dark, eerie mystery through the cinematography, which looks incredible!

With the dual sides to Minnow Bly’s story, the trailer delivers a perfect balance of both her life presently and before, while also not giving too much away!

I found the trailer really got the soul of the story through and has me really eager to check out the show!

Sacred Lies will premiere on Facebook Watch July 27!

Are you a fan of Sacred Lies and looking forward to the adaptation??

+ Has the trailer sparked your interest to read the book or watch the show?

*I’m also planning to do some giveaways of the The Sacred Lies Of Minnow Bly (both US & INTL) to celebrate the show’s upcoming release! 😍✨📚

I’ve recently created a Ko-fi to cover shipping for upcoming giveaways & to have even more in the future! If you can, here’s my link if your able to donate 😄:
